Entropic Approach to Measure Damage with Applications to Fatigue Failure and Structural Reliability

This paper suggests several entropies as candidates of proper damage measurements in fatigue process. Classic thermodynamic entropy has shown good agreement of endurance existence and the following properties. AE information entropy was evaluated by using modulus degradation damage. Statistical mechanics entropy is computed by using relative entropy equation with fitted forward / reverse work distributions. The entropic approaches are expected to develop in order to apply them in practical reliability analyses and prognosis.
