Abstract:
Power consumption is a critical concern for smartphone batteries; since batteries have limited capacities therefore it is important to reduce power consumption. Significant work has been devoted to accomplish this through improving both software and hardware. In this paper, a file download system named (PFDS) was designed with a new file download method to reduce the download time in smartphones devices; which yields to decrease the battery power consumption. The main idea of this system is to download the requested files from two servers instead of one server simultaneously, i.e., in parallel mode. The proposed system is consisted from three programs. The first runs on a central computer, steering the control between the file servers and the smart device. The seconds runs on a file server, and the third runs on the smart device. The system uses C# language for the server side and the Java NetBeans for the mobile side depending on Android operating system. The experiments show that the use of the proposed method reduced download time by (25.5%) and the battery power consumption by 2.5%. The reduced time was achieved by adopting parallelism in the proposed method.
