Pulse phase-frequency detectors in high-speed frequency synthesizers

A review of the existing schemes of pulse phase-frequency detectors (PFD) of frequency synthesizers (FS) designing is made, their discriminator curves (DC) are obtained, and shortages are considered. Improved algorithms and structures of the PFD for the implementation of high-speed FS are proposed. To study the features of PFD functioning, to obtain input and output signal diagrams, to explore static DC a simulation model (virtual bench) was developed in Matlab Simulink environment, which generates the necessary input signals and estimates the average value of the output signals, estimates frequencies and phase mismatch and solves the problem of visualization.
