Polarization Modulator Base On Amplitude And Phase MZM Tandem

The development of fiber-optic telecommunication and sensory systems with polarization multiplexing is restrained by the possibility of complete suppression of one of the side bands or carrier frequency respectively, which affects the errors in the recovery of information telecommunications signals, as well as the accuracy and range of measurements. These problems can be solved by constructing microwave systems with polarization multiplexing based on single-frequency continuous wave lasers and electro-optical tandem of amplitude and phase modulators.The solution of the problems is based on the use of a unique method, which was called the Il'in-Morozov's method, proposed by the authors in 1983, and based on modulation of the amplitude, and the manipulation of the phase of the initial carrier for synthesis of symmetric two-frequency or poly- harmonic two-band radiation. The structure of output poly- harmonic radiation contains symmetric components with respect to the suppressed carrier, with equal amplitudes and alternative phases with a difference frequency equal to the frequency of the modulating microwave signal. It is characterized by a high degree of transformation coefficient and spectral purity in case we have deviations of the conversion parameters from the optimal ones.
