Development of Vacuum Suction Unit Using Flame Extinguishment

It is well-known that a flame, after being sealed by a shell, extinguishes and forms a negative pressure inside the shell. However, few studies have addressed the causes of this negative pressure. In this study, a cause analysis was conducted by detecting the variations in the pressure and temperature during the extinguishment process, i.e., burning oxygen-consuming chemical reaction, natural air cooling, and fuel molecule condensation. The results reveal that the first two phenomena contributed little to the formation of negative pressure; the condensation of fuel molecules was found to be the main cause. Furthermore, the degree of vacuum generated from the flame extinguishment process could reach up to tens of kilo Pascals, based on which many useful applications can be developed. For example, in this study, we developed a vacuum suction unit of lifting an object weighing 51 kg.
