Situation Awareness for Cyber-Physical System: A Case Study of Advanced Metering Infrastructure

Information security and system safety are key to AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructures) system, because AMI system reads and transmits customers' billing and usage data linked to fees and personal information. Situation Awareness (SA) is an effective method to keep system secure and safe. Convectional SA framework was designed for only cyber space or physical space. However, AMI is a typical Cyber-Physical System (CPS), which should supervise both cyber and physical attacks. In this work, a detailed SA framework of CPS is proposed. An illustrated case study of practical system is presented. A simulation study is conducted to verify the proposed framework.
