Application of GIS Grid Interpolation on Unconventional Resource Evaluation

Take Amu-Darya basin as an example, the paper applies GIS grid interpolation to resource evaluation for the tight gas in the middle and lower Jurassic. It is characterized by integration or interbed between source rock and reservoir, thus a good matching relationship has formed. There are the geological conditions of developing a large area of dense sandstone gas reservoirs, which are mainly concentrated in the center of the depressions and the slopes. According to the drilling, logging, seismic and sample experimental data, including porosity and reservoir thickness of the tight gas reservoir, TOC and maturity of hydrocarbon source rocks, classification standard of the tight gas resource evaluation are put forward. Through multigraph of the source socks, reservoirs, caps and the sedimentary facies, upper and lower “sweet spot” of the lower-middle Jurassic are predicted and divided into I, II, III favorable zones. The contour maps of abundance for recoverable resources of Amu-Darya basin are formed through spatial graphic interpolation of key assessment parameters of tight gas resources on the Geographic Information System (GIS) platform.
