An Enhanced Field-Weakening Algorithm for BLDC Motor Drives

Due to significant features of BLDC motor drives, they are being used in various applications. The implementation of BLDC motors is feasible because of the progress of innovations in Permanent magnet (PM) which give high power density, efficiency, and torque for Brushless DC motors. When compared to other motors of equivalent power BLDC motors has less size and easy control due to the advancements in the construction and features of BLDC motors. An enhanced Field-Weakening algorithm is presented in this paper for BLDC motors. The proposed technique is powerful to the fluctuation in the motors q- and d-axis inductances. A smooth transition is obtained for the trajectories of maximum torque per flux (MTPF)., current limits, maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) and voltage limits. The Direct Torque Control (DTC) is combined with proposed technique to achieve a high efficiency drive with in the Field-Weakening region. A simulation model of proposed drive has been developed using Simulink and simulated using MATLAB software. The simulation results are presented to prove the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
