Structural Properties of Optimal Wireless Transmission Using Harvested Energy

In our previous work, we study optimal energy-efficient real-time wireless transmission scheduling problems for systems with sufficient battery power. In this work, we extend the analysis to similar systems that rely on harvested energy. In particular, we study two types of systems: (i) The harvested energy trickles in at a constant rate and (ii) The harvested energy can only be obtained when the wireless system is not transmitting. For the first type of systems, we show structural properties of the optimal sample path. For the second type of systems, we solve a special case that some backlogged tasks need to be transmitted by a common deadline.
