Overview of Linear Motors for Transportation Applications

Linear motor has been widely used in transportation applications. Different types of linear motor with different performance characteristics (acceleration, fault tolerance, efficiency, etc.) are applied for various transportation systems (long distance, short distance, factory, etc.). In this paper, we aim to review the different types of linear machine which have been applied or are still under research and development for various transportation systems. In addition, we also review the transportation applications according to the materials which generate the magnetic force within the linear motor.
