A Modular-Cascaded Active-Balanced Storage System for Electric Transportation

In this paper a novel modular cascaded multilevel circuit is proposed for electric transportation, which can realize active balance of SOC (state-of-charge) and voltage between battery modules. The proposed circuit can be applied for the power storage of electric vehicle (EV), or the recycle of the retired battery of EV. The topology also has high modularity, expansibility and fault-tolerance operation ability. A hybrid energy storage system (HESS) with battery and super-capacitor can be realized to optimize battery utilization, where a fuzzy-logic-based power sharing strategy is proposed which takes all important factors into consideration without needing the accuracy mathematical model. Experimental results are proposed to verify the performances of the topology and control algorithm.
