Fundamental Study on Mariner's Allowance for Steering System Delay

Remote maneuvering system for a ship had a possibility to solve crew shortage problem. However, the system had delay time for the communication of land to ship because of satellite communication delay. This paper proposed a method to measure allowance for delay time in steering system and then results of simulator experiment indicated limit of delay time for steering system from view point of mariner's mental workload.
