Novel Ultra-Wide Band (10 MHz–26 GHz) Permeability Measurements for Magnetic Films

A new RF magnetic measurement system is proposed to detect complex permeability of magnetic films, of which the measurable frequency range has been demonstrated but not limited to 10 MHz-26 GHz. The system is based on a simple microwave generator and lock-in detection setup. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is enhanced by the lock-in detection technique. Measurements of ferromagnetic resonance and complex permeability on a thick FeGaB film (30 nm) and an ultra-thin NiFe (2 nm) were presented to demonstrate the wider frequency capability and higher SNR as compared with the best available permeameter.
