Antenna design for 5g communications

This paper discusses various challenges related to the antenna design process for 5G communications focusing on the 26 GHz band. In a first example, an 8 element wideband array antenna is optimized for use in a mobile phone. The antenna performance is investigated, including gain, coupling and beamsteering. Aspects related to the antenna integration workflows are also discussed. In a second example, an optimization approach of a base station antenna is presented and the performance is compared for different array configurations. Finally, some aspects related to 5G channel modeling are discussed and how these impact the antenna design.
