Abstract:

A high performance splash-plate feed for parabolic reflector antenna in X band is proposed. In this structure a shaped dielectric material between the splash plate and waveguide is presented, the dielectric material of the connecting portion is Teflon (dielectric constant is 2.1) and the compact different diameter cylinders are inserted into the circular waveguide. The shaped dielectric material between the splash plate and waveguide is the connecting portion between waveguide and splash-plate. This not only allows an additional variable to design a more efficient feed, but also solves the splash-plate support problem. The CST simulation results show that VSWR<;1.1 within the frequency range of 10.50GHz-11.53 GHz, and the pattern is symmetrical. In the meanwhile, replacing the sub-reflector in the conventional Cassegrain antenna with a shaped dielectric material between the splash plate and waveguide improves the parabolic reflector antenna's reflection coefficient within the operation bandwidth of 10.50GHz-11.43 GHz.
