A feasibility study of microwave respiration monitoring

This paper studies the feasibility of monitoring human respiration using microwave measurements. In the measurement setup, an array of microwave antennas is deployed around human chest, and data are collected with each antenna alternatively serving as a transmitter and the rest antennas as receivers. With numerical simulation of a simple pulmonary respiration model, the sensitivity of microwave measurements to pulmonary respiration is studied. The preliminary results validate the feasibility of microwave monitoring on human respiration.
