Design of an on-body matched wide-slot UWB antenna for brain activities detection

An on-body matched wide-slot UWB antenna is presented. This on-body antenna is matched to the human head to allow more energy to be radiated into human head for brain activities detection. The antenna is designed by using a microstrip with a triangular gradual structure at the top and a wide slot on ground. After the optimization of the antenna parameters, a small size of 28×27mm
²
and a wide operating bandwidth of 2.4-9.3GHz is achieved. The simulated S
₂₁
shows that the transmission performance of the proposed antenna is superior to the unmatched antenna, especially in 4.3 to 6GHz. With features such as a very small size, good impedance matching and better transmission performance in a realistic scenario, this design shows a high potential for use in brain activities detection.
