H-Bridge Driven Propulsion System for a Light Weight Electric Vehicle using DC Link Voltage Controller

This paper proposes a novel and simple method for H-bridge driven propulsion System using a DC motor for a Light Weight Electric Vehicle (LEV) such as Three-wheeler. For controlling the motor, an H-Bridge driven system is introduced which is incorporated with an optimized DC Link voltage controller while placing the DC motor in the load. The direction of the motor will depend based on the switching combinations of the H-bridge drive. Proposed DC Link voltage controller is used to keep the output voltage of the controller constant by varying the duty cycle of a bi-direction boost converter as per the input voltage command. The output voltage of the controller is converted into speed which is provided as input speed of the motor. Maintaining the same speed command, the armature current and output speed of the motor is analyzed in various conditions. The H-bridge drive along with the DC Link voltage controller has been simulated in MATLAB/Simulink.
