Modeling and simulation of a new artificial breathing system

This study concerns the modeling and the simulation of a new active artificial respiratory system that we developed. The main purpose of this modeling is to solve the limitations of the physical system; the combinations of the resistance and the compliance system treat only the pathological situations of the adult patients, the further technical limitations prevent us to simulate the respiratory system for additional categories. This model allows studying the functioning of the simulator and its interaction with the ventilator. The resultant equation of the model was used to simulate three situations (normal, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)) with various adjustments of the system's parameters, in particular the compliance and the resistance. Finally, the results simulated by the model are compared with those of the physical system. Indeed, the maximum error between the flows was less than 13 percent, with a coefficient of determination between 0.96 and 0.95. On the other hand, the root mean square error RMSE is between 0.04 and 0.085. The results observed according to this comparison confirm us that this model allows to reproduce realistic situations and answer the limitations of our physical system.
