Beamforming UWB-IR transmitter for NLOS indoor positioning and tracking application

This paper describes a UWB-IR beamforming transmitter array for non-line-of-sight directional indoor positioning and tracking of moving objects in the dense cluttered environment. The proposed electronically controlled UWB-IR beamforming circuit uses the combination of tunable digital true-time delay cell to generate the four equally time-spaced data pulses. The equally time-spaced data pulses fed to the UWB-IR pulse generator array of four elements, which generate four UWB-IR pulses with the same amount of relative delays. The presented beamforming architecture has been optimized to produce relative delay ranging from −600 psec to +600 psec and the antenna array has intentionally configured to produce multiple beams in different directions.
