Modelling, operation and speed estimation of standalone wind driven doubly fed induction generator

This paper presents the modelling and simulation of the standalone doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) based wind energy conversion system with a suitable rotor position estimation technique. The system includes a single bidirectional converter on the rotor terminal fed by a battery energy storage system. The rotor estimation technique uses the voltage and current measurement of the stator and rotor terminals. The complexity involve with installation of the mechanical sensors are reduced as well as a cost effective solution obtained due to single converter operation. A 7.5 kW slip ring machine is used for the modelling and simulation of the system in the MATLAB/Simulink.
