Clustering malicious spam in email systems using mass mailing

Email is one of the most common ways people communicate, ranging from internal meeting requests, to distribution of documents. Apart from general uses email is now used for security to bank accounts, social networking accounts. Once an attacker gets access to one's email account, attacker may get access to all other accounts related to that email account like bank account, social networking account through password recovery mechanism. Attackers, though, recognize this importance and try to get access to email account or hamper the email services from normal functioning most common way of paralyzing an email system is through mass mailing attacks. This paper proposed a novel approach for identifying and generating a network attack signature to identify mass mailing attack. Generated signature identifies the initial signs of denial of service attack on SMTP server. Initial identification of attack might help the network administrator to take suitable action to further stop the high intensity attacks. Novel approach may restrain and prevent circulation of mass-mailing attacks in the network.
