Tools for validation and calibration of very large power system models

Power system validation is an important, but difficult task. Three tools are presented that can help in power system validation of very large power systems. The first tool is the standard equipment test tool, that can be used to detect wrong parameters by performing a battery of tests. It provides a synthetic output, making it especially useful for very large power system models. The second tool is a parameter calibration tool that adjusts the model parameters to obtain a good match between simulations and measurements. The third tool is the sensitivity calculation tool that determines the most relevant candidate parameters for calibration. The three tools have been successfully tested on the French HV grid and on the Pan-European power system.
