The research of fault section location for distribution network based on transient feature extraction and fuzzy clustering

Single-phase earth fault occurs in distribution network, which generates relatively abundant electrical transient characteristic. Based on the difference of the transient zero-sequence current between the upstream and downstream of the fault point, the transient energy characteristic index is constructed by extreme-point symmetric mode decomposition (ESMD), and the similarity index of the waveform is built by adopting the pearson correlation coefficient and the bhattacharyya distance. The data obtained before are normalized first, and then the Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) algorithm is used to cluster the transient index system of different fault points. All the points are divided into two types. Finally, the fault is located in a certain section with the topology of the actual distribution network. The simulation results showed that the proposed method can effectively extract weak fault characteristic signals of high impedance grounding, and the localization algorithm has high robustness and strong immunity to noise interference.
