The influence of smart grids on a large synchronous generators operation

With the development of renewable energy sources, which are mainly connected to high and medium voltage distribution nets, at present, as a further trend of the development of the power system, the development of self-sufficient regions is planned. A self-sufficient region may be understood as Smart Grids, in which energy supply will be provided from small sources in distribution systems. Despite the development of sources at the distribution system level, it is possible to assume that the existing transmission system and a part of large generators will remain operational. In this paper, we deal with possible influences of such a scenario of power system development on the operation of large synchronous generators.
