Analysis of the inclusion of wind-solar power plants in the planning of Brazilian electrical system

The Wind-Solar Hybrid Power Plants (UES) are receiving more attention because of the possibility to reduce problems like intermittency and unpredictability that harm the wind and solar sources. In Brazil, this solution is recent and there is no specific regulation about it. Currently, entrepreneurs who invest in these sources shall sell the energy separately in the energy auctions, even if the plants share installations and terrain. In this way, this paper analyses from a reference case the advantages arising from the joint sale of energy from these sources. At first, a calculation methodology of Leveled Cost of Electricity (LCOE) for the energy joint sale was created, showing the existence of significant gains with some combinations of portion of wind and solar. Following this, the calculation of Present Value (VP), Net Present Value (VPL) and Internal Rate of Return (TIR) were made, showing that some combinations are more advantageous for the planner/costumer and for the investor.
