Method for fault detection on transmission lines of HVDC-VSC systems using high-frequency transients

A method for fault detecting on transmission lines of high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems using voltage source converters (VSC) is presented in this paper. This method depends only on the direct current (DC) wavelet coefficients of the first decomposition level generated by the stationary wavelet transform (SWT), and need no communication with other devices. The performance of this method is evaluated through simulations of internal and external faults, including critical cases.
