Predictive maintenance based on intelligent electronic device (IED) records analysis: A case applied to a 230 kV capacitor bank of the eletronorte Vila do Conde substation

Today, electrical energy generation and transmission facilities are paid for the availability of their systems and no more for what is generated and transmitted in the national interconnected system. In this context, more and more efforts are being made by the generating and transmitting companies so that unwanted shutdowns do not occur or are avoided. The financial losses when unwanted shutdowns occur, submit the companies to a rigid inspection process according to rules by the National System Operator and the National Electric Energy Agency. To overcome or minimize the problem of financial losses, companies are investing in systems with automation, protection, control and monitoring techniques through devices with high capacity for data processing, speed and security in information to help the decision-making of the best moment for an intervention in the equipment. This work aims to show an analysis of data recorded by intelligent electronic devices, as well as to show how the result of this analysis influences the decision-making in the process of equipment maintenance and consequently in the company business profitability.
