Virtual inertia impact on microgrid voltage and frequency control

This work presents challenges related to voltage and frequency control of low inertia AC microgrids with significant amount of renewable-energy resources interfaced to a distribution system through power-electronic inverters. The distributed generator control scheme based on Virtual Synchronous Generator (GSV) with adaptive inertia is depicted. This control strategy was implemented in a test system and, based on simulations by Anatem software, its influence on transient stability of islanded microgrids is evaluated. Comparisons are made between this model and the generic photovoltaic dynamic simulation model PVD1 with droop-controlled inverters. Since GSV parameters influence the microgrid dynamic response, some changes were performed to analyze its impact.
