Minimization of the impacts caused by distributed generation to the electric system by exploring the reactive control range of solar inverters

The participation of distributed generation sources in the Brazilian electric system have been growing year by year after the Standard Resolution REN 482/2012 came into force. The increasing participation of these sources into the distribution system raises the interest of researchers in minimizing the impacts caused by these new energy suppliers and even harness the potential of smallholder generation to give more stability to the system. The kind of generation that has been highlighting in the segment is the photovoltaic systems, being the largest number of connections in the Brazilian distribution networks. The voltage variation caused by these sources can be minimized if a control is adopted in the injection of reactives through the solar inverters. This work aims to evaluate the behavior of the voltage regulators of an IEEE 123 nodes system, which represents a distribution feeder, with photovoltaic generators connected to the network through inverters that allow to adopt a control in the dispatch of reactive power. For the study is applied the controls provided in the Brazilian standard pertinent to solar inverters and also the control VOLT / VAR. From the data obtained it was possible to discuss the results in view of the effects on the life of the voltage regulators.
