Robust design of modern multi-band PSS using gravitational search algorithm

This paper solves the problem of robust and coordinated design of Multi-Band Power System Stabilizers (MB-PSS). The tuning procedure is formulated as an optimization problem aiming at shifting local and inter-area oscillation modes to regions with suitable damping ratio. The Gravitational Search Algorithm is used to solve the optimization problem and the results are compared to those obtained by using classical controllers. Frequency Response and Time Domain simulations are performed to evaluate the effectiveness of the designed controllers.
