A review of single to three-phase conversion methods for supplying rural loads

It is common for rural facilities to use singlephase motors to drive loads. As production increases it becomes more advantageous to use three-phase motors, which are more energetically efficient, although the costs of demanding another phase to be distributed can reduce the economic viability of the motor change, therefore the use of systems that convert to three-phase using only two wires as input become relevant in order to save costs. This paper reviews the viability and power quality of four such methods: Ferraris-Arno, Scott-T, and a new proposed method.
