Abstract:

Instant messaging (IM) software such as Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, and LINE have become widely used to support people's social activities with family and friends. The IMs also create opportunities for social communities to stay together and exchange ideas on many topics of interest such as financial investment. Today, stock investors join one or more IM chatrooms to collect information and exchange investment ideas with other investors who have the same interests and goals. This study applies a conversational user interface to the development of a stock chatbot and allow communities to invite and embed the service in their community group. The chatbot will push investment-related information to the groups to support the community members in exchanging opinions and sharing ideas about investment decision-making. This experiment compares the decision performance of the long/short forecasts of individual investors and group members. The results show that group users have more confidence in their decisions but the differences in forecasting results between individuals and groups were not significant.
