Stabilities study of the current agriculture use UAV and future design

Advanced in the microelectronics and software engineering in the last two decade (especially of the micro controller chip) allows speed up the development of programed robotic system, which also include the unmanned aerial vehicle system. Since 2005, different organization around the world has established different open source project for the UAVs, which further mature the UAV technologies, therefore recent civil use UAVs are booming, and typical missions are the aerial mapping or environmental monitoring. However, missions such as package delivery or agriculture use by spraying chemical from air are still in trail stage, this is due to significant amount of weight change happened during mission, thus affecting the stabilities and controllability's of the UAVs. General solution to keep the stabilities with such weight change is using normal PID controller, however this type of controller only has certain bandwidth witch allow small change of the overall system. Hence, most of commercial product UAV are designed in such way so that the “weight change” is inside the bandwidth of the PID controller, which means the overall vehicle has not yet reach its full potential. In order to increase the efficiency UAV for the future design, detail study and review of state of the art technologies is required. This project focus on three different area, 1) Design and constructing an experimental vehicle for the agriculture use (with liquid tank that can store or spry of liquid) and run some stability test with different weight. 2) Detail study of on the analysis of the current commercial products for the stabilities and weight capacities. 3) Future design planning and suggesting (next generation of civil use UAVs).
