A team-oriented, project-based freshman problem solving course: benefits of early exposure

Engineering 100: Fundamentals of Problem Solving is a freshman class introduced at Kettering University (USA) in 1995. This paper describes the benefits of offering the course as early as possible in the curriculum. Two characteristics of the course which may be responsible for the benefits-a successful team-oriented approach and a final design project-are described.
