Internet of Things in Smart Ambulance and Emergency Medicine

Wireless telemedicine is becoming an increasingly important part in providing a wide range of health care services for on‐scene paramedics carrying out emergency rescue. As far as the paramedics are concerned, any information related to diagnosis needs to be made available for initial treatment. This chapter provides an in‐depth discussion on using IoT for emergency support by gathering information about the patient through analysis of medical images and data collected from a variety of biosensors as well as on using a case study of providing emergency support to an asthma sufferer where it is known to be difficult for differentiating asthma and other forms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (
COPD
) in an on‐scene setting. This chapter takes an in‐depth look into the use of
IoT
technology for diagnosis and prognosis of
COPD
in supporting paramedics.
