Optimization of user interface layout using methods engineering approach

This paper, demonstrated the methods engineering approach to identify underlying problems in UI design. Effectiveness of UI designs was evaluated based on two parameters such as number of clicks required in performing a complete task and the distance moved by the cursor/mouse from first click to last click during the task. A process flow/string diagram was prepared for every task involved. Evaluation of students' attendance entry module is done as a sample. It is further attempted to improve using principles of motion economy of methods engineering approach and the results are noted.
