On the Statistical Properties of Constant Envelope Quantizers

Transmit signals that have constant magnitudes and discrete phases can decrease the power consumption of future wireless communication systems. To obtain signals fulfilling that property, constant envelope quantizers (CEQs) have to be deployed in the system. However, the increased power efficiency comes at the cost of degraded system performance. To mitigate this performance loss with conventional digital filters, e.g., Wiener Filter precoders, the statistical signal properties at the CEQ have to be known. In this context, we study the effect of the CEQ on the statistical signal properties and derive closed-form expressions of the correlation factors at the CEQ with complex-valued Gaussian input signals.
