Dynamic spectrum sharing and resource allocation for multiceli LTE-A system

Devìce-to-devìce (D2D) communication is expected to offload some of the data traffic carried by the base stations under the long term evolution advanced (LTE-A) system. This paper proposes a novel optimization problem in which the base stations, having unique sets of resource blocks, trade some of their resource blocks with one another while also performing orthogonal allocation of resource blocks along with the corresponding transmit powers for all users within their respective LTE-A cells (i.e., including uplink users, downlink users and D2D users). The objective of the proposed optimization problem is to jointly maximize the net revenue of each base station, obtained through trading of resource blocks, and the sum data rates of every cell. Different from the existing works, the proposed optimization problem allows all users (i.e., cellular users and D2D users) to be guaranteed their minimum data rates. The proposed formulation is non-convex but is converted into a mixed integer linear program (MILP) which is solved efficiently by exploiting the structure of the proposed formulation. Our results demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach in achieving guaranteed data rates for all users.
