Determination of optimal controlled splitting time in power systems

Splitting time plays an important role for a successful controlled splitting, and the wide-area measurement system provides an effective means for determining optimal controlled splitting time. Given this background, a method for determining controlled splitting time based on WAMS data and a combined prediction algorithm is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the criteria used to determine the splitting time is established from two aspects, namely, the power angle and the operating frequency. Secondly, the WAMS data are utilized to examine the dynamic process of the power system in real time, and the prediction algorithm is adopted to estimate the disturbance trajectory, aiming to determine the optimal splitting time. Furthermore, in order to avoid the drawbacks of the traditional prediction algorithm, a combined linear prediction algorithm is presented to improve the prediction performance. Finally, the IEEE 39-bus test system is employed to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method.
