360° color and depth mapping of an indoor room:: Microsoft Kinect 2.0

Students enrolled in the electrical or computer engineering program at Stony Brook University are required to complete and document a project related to the field in his or her final year under the supervision of a professor in the department. In the field of computer vision, this project attempts to implement a system to provide a 360° color and depth model of an indoor room using data captured from the Microsoft Kinect 2.0. As of the writing of this paper, this project is currently being completed under the supervision of Murali Subbarao, a professor at Stony Brook University. In preparation for the development of this system, ESE 358, a computer vision course offered at Stony Brook University, was taken in which five projects focusing on different areas of the field were completed. This report will detail these projects as well as the current state and intended development of the system.
