Comparison of Vemonia cinerea and lime in reducing the cigarette cessation

There are several approaches in order to encourage people who need to stop smoking. Specifically, the uses of medicine and non-medicine (e.g., local herb) are deployed in medical societies to help smoking cessation. The proposed of this study was to investigate the uses of non-medicine such Thai traditional herb to test with participants who needed to reduce smoking urge behaviour. This study examined two kinds of Thai herb including Vernonia cinerea and lime in Thai smokers. A randomised control approach was applied by recruiting the sample from Chomphra Hospital, Surin Province, Thailand. The experiment compared among two groups of sampling Vernonia cinerea (N = 4) and lime (N = 4). This research conducted two groups in 8 weeks and followed up participants' behaviour regarding the level of smoking urge. In addition, questionnaire was designed to measure blood pressure, heart rate, and body weight. The result found that the uses of both Vernonia cinerea and lime decreased the level of smoking urge behaviour. In particular, when the researcher distributed these herbariums to test with participant, the smoking behaviour has been decreased after 1 week and continually in 2 weeks. Specifically, the use of lime had a significant level regarding reduced smoking behaviour respectively. However, the deployment of both Vernonia cinerea and lime demonstrated the evidence of decreasing a number of cigarettes, but a statistical testing has shown not significant in statistic level. Thus, based on the experimental testing, the use of Thai herbs can reduce smoking urge circumstance in two weeks. Unfortunately, this testing was used merely eight participants with a short period of time, it needed to explore further research on another 6 weeks to fulfil the program.
