Development of a magnetic linear motor based on a friction drive

A friction drive is one of the most promising mechanisms for a practical micro-actuator. Several kinds of piezoelectric micro-motors based on the friction drive were proposed and their large torque at a low revolution speed was demonstrated. In our previous work [1], we applied the friction drive to an electromagnetic rotary micro-motor and indicated that it is useful for electromagnetic actuators as well. In this paper, we newly proposed an electromagnetic linear motor based on the friction drive. This paper describes Its structure, actuation, and basic characteristics.
