Dynamic in-situ measurements of head-to-disk spacing

In-situ measurements of the dynamic flying height of a recording head mounted on a slider suspended over the surface of a disk are traditionally performed by using magnetic, capacitance, or optical measurements. A new method of measuring the dynamic flying height characteristics of a magnetoresistive (MR) head uses the thermal response of an MR head [1].
