Finite-Difference Time-Domain Modeling of Wave Propagation in a Nonlinear Anisotropic Crystal

An efficient algorithm is developed to simulate the anisotropic and second-order nonlinear (χ⁽²⁾) effects simultaneously using the finite-difference time-domain method. This algorithm utilizes the modified constitutive equation and the iterative techniques to calculate components of the electric field in a nonlinear material. Courant's stability condition suffices the stability of the proposed method. Credibility and advantages of this algorithm are illustrated by simulation of two important second-order nonlinear phenomena, including electrooptic effect and second harmonic generation. Presented theoretical results also confirm the numerical calculations.
