Frequency-dependent target localization

This paper presents proof-of-concept theory and results of angular localization of a single target using frequency diversity within a radar system. This approach is inspired by echolocating species that use a wide acoustic bandwidth and frequency diversity in order to echolocate. By utilizing a substantial radar bandwidth the radiation patterns of the antennas vary significantly across the frequency band. These variations may be used to extract information about the angular location of a target. This paper focuses on the theoretical plausibility of this idea, and provides proof-of-concept experimental results to show that it is possible.
