Numerical Modeling of WSe2 Solar Cells

In this work PC1D software was used to characterize a single crystal WSe
₂
/thin film heterojunction solar cell. The results were compared to experimentally obtained values, where the efficiency of the simulated device (7.2%) was in reasonable agreement with the measured value (7.8%) in spite of the uncertainty of the experimental details. The main reason for the relatively low experimental efficiency has been shown to be the halogen lamp illumination spectra and the choice of Au as the back contact. Simulated efficiencies in excess of 16% are shown for an AM1.5 Illumination spectra with potentially higher values for a better choice of back contact metal. In addition, simulation of thin film devices shows efficiencies in excess of 18% may be achieved.
