Kinetics and corrosion properties of the LaY2Ni9 alloy used as anode for nickel-metal hydride batteries

In this paper, the kinetics and corrosion properties of LaY2Ni9 hydrogen storage alloy have been studied using different methods at different discharge rates. First, we have applied the theoretical approaches proposed by Henryk Bala on galvanostatic charge/discharge curves of the mentioned negative electrode that we obtained previously within our research team. By assimilating our negative electrode to H2O/H2 system, we were able to determine the kinetics parameters such as: the exchange current density, potential jump and equilibrium potential graphically from galvanostatic charge/discharge curves at different discharge rates. And then, we simulated the experimental discharge capacity curves of the LaY2Ni9 electrode to determine the corrosion parameter, such as the material degradation rate constant at different discharge rates.
