Comparative analysis of filters in confocal microscopy images

The analysis of cellular tissue regeneration images through confocal microscopy is a complicated process due to the very low signal-to-noise ratio. Because the noise is Poisson type, the use of filters is necessary. In addition, the images acquired in confocal microscopy are affected by the distortions introduced by the lenses and the acquisition system. Therefore, it is possible to improve the definition of the cells using methods of deconvolution or filters such as Wiener filter. However, a study for the elimination of noise in images of confocal microscopy has not been carried out. Therefore, in this paper we present a comparative study of filters for noise elimination in images of Parhyale hawaiensis. In order to do this, the profile of filtered images was studied with seven filters: anisotropic, bilateral, bilateral propagated, propagated improved Rudin-Osher-Fatemi (ROF), and Wavelet filters 'A trous' and Haar, with and without preprocessing with the Wiener filter.
