Grid interactive rooftop solar PV power plant for educational institute

Coal fired power plants are the backbone of In India power sector that forms about 59% of total installed capacity. The energy generation through coal route produces CO
₂
emission that forms about 0.2 million tonne per hour. Moreover, the coal is a finite source of energy which may exhaust and is non renewable. On the other hand, in Indian power scenario, due to huge gap between power supply and demand, the power cuts are being faced frequently that force the use to diesel generator set whose cost of generation is very high as well as foreign exchange is involved because the oil is to imported. For sustainable energy growth of country, the use of renewable energy systems like solar PV power plant, provide the stable power during day hours. If the SPV power plant is implemented through grid interactive system, the power during non solar hours is imported from grid and the excess energy during solar hours is pumped into grid. The installation of 500 kW SPV power plant at REVA University campus will generate 852.4 MWh/y with an initial investment of $0.30 million will have a payback period of 3 years and 11 months and life time gain is $2.35 million. The specific energy generation is 1.70 MWh/kW/y. This will help in reduction of carbon emission (CO
₂
) by 895 tonne/year that adds up the green energy revolution.
